Some great lessons from Johnny Hunt, past Southern Baptist Convention president:
“Always take someone with you in ministry. Lead by example. And most important: You teach what you know; you reproduce who you are.”
“You can preach all you want about reaching the world for Christ, but if you don’t get out there on the edge with your people, they won’t go,” Hunt says.
These things are very similar to what Paul tells Timothy:
“…and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2
It’s also clear that Paul was living what he was preaching. There are things that must be taught, as well as “caught.” Paul multiplied disciples such as Timothy, who had a first-hand example of what a Christ-centered life should look like:
“You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions and sufferings…” 2 Timothy 3:10-11
