Jesus, The True Temple

19Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”  -John 2:19

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament Temple. In those days, the Temple was the place where sinful humans met with the holy God. “The curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom”(Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:45). The way to God is opened up by the perfect sacrifice, the ultimate passover Lamb.”24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness”(1 Peter 2:24). Christ is the true temple-where sinful humans meet with the holy God of the universe.

I’ll never forgot what a huge impact one of my mentor’s from college had on me in sharing how to understand prayer to God: We pray to the Father, through the Son, by/in the Spirit.

Everything we receive from God comes from the Father, through the Son, by the Spirit.

(my thoughts on Jesus being the true temple are based on D.A. Carson’s message from the book Scandalous, “Ironies of the Cross”)
